I quite like the green colours surrounding the grebe in this photo, but , at the same time it is a reminder that many of our once pristine lakes are changing for the worse. Although a lot of the green here is reflection from a oak woodland behind, unfortunately some of it is the water itself. Algae and duckweed can be seen and is a clear indicator of enrichment -“Eutrophication” where the nutrients accumulate in a body of water. This results in an increase of microorganisms causing algal blooms and bacterial growth and depletion of dissolved oxygen etc. with
environmental degradation.
Fertiliser runoff from farming and sewage pollution are the main causes. This change in the water body will affect the whole food chain and this Grebe sits very near the top of this food chain. So , yes I quite like the the effect in this photo but at the same time it is, as I said, for me, a reminder.

Inner workings of an HSI (Horizontal Situation Indicator) display instrument (SMITH INDUSTRIES, Cheltenham)
Utah Transit Authority installed GCI signals for train operators in quiet zones. The signal flashes on and off as the gates are dropping or rising, and display a solid lunar indication when they have dropped and the crossing is secure.
Union Pacific did not install them, but UTA's GCIs are activated in locations where UP's Provo, Lynndyl, and Salt Lake subdivisions parallel the UTA's commuter rail track. Here a Grand Junction to Salt Lake City OCS crosses 7th West in Provo, Utah on August 28, 2025.
A dial test indicator consists of a gauge; on the gauge is a pin level mounted on a spring. When the pin contacts a surface, pressure forces the pin lever up, causing the dial gauge to move. Numbers marked on the perimeter of the dial test indicator display the amount of pressure applied to the pin lever.

CSX Hazard mine run C641 eases through the spring switches at EE Bates Branch. A singular R-2 dwarf switch indicator guards the east end of the siding. The tracks to the right lead to the inactive Bates Branch tipple. C641 has empties for Leatherwood in tow.
Just a log on a beach by the path through dunes to the carpark. Across the water and beyond the sandspit is Warrington.
Today a pole established our region of Otago as one of the most friendly places on Earth from visitor ratings. Perth in Scotland was number 1 and Taiwan, Brazil, USA and others also featured.

In early moring drizzle and poor light Carters Heritge Dennis Trident Alexander ALX 400 IK05 GFV is running empty past Mistley Manor Nursing home to work the 193 to East Bergholt School. Because of Corona Virus this service is now just for Schools and not available to the general public. In the big field at the back of the Nursing home the bulldozers have just started on work to build no less tham 500 homes. Just what you want in retirement a nice bit of peace and quite!.
